The Mowbray one-name study

The study comprises persons born into the name Mowbray/Moubray/Mowberry or one of the many other spelling variants that have been used over the years. There is no limitation on timescale or geographic territory and to date there are some 8,000 persons recorded in the database. Many people, not just members of my own Lincolnshire branch of the family, have given help. Special mention must be made of the work by Stephen Goslin in the 1970s which provide a substantial underpinning, both from the Mowbray Journal and from his own research notes.

The following list gives some idea of the data sources already covered by the study. The main omissions are the Scottish registration records and those of USA, AUS and NZ.

International Genealogical Index (IGI), produced by The Church of Jesus Christ and the Latter Day Saints.
